Violence Against Women Act is a federal statute that has been re-authorized in 2022.

Even if a state grand jury doesn't find evidence to support a woman's accusation of criminal violence, a woman may seek civil damages in federal court under the Violence Against Women Act. Since the standards of proof are lower in civil cases, she may win the federal civil suit.
