Facts
Police thought a home was being used for illegal gambling. Police used an adjacent home as a base for operations. The police officers used a listening device from the neighboring home without obtaining a judicial search warrant.
Holding
The justices excludes the evidence against the suspect and overturned his conviction.
Reasons
The 4th Amendment to the US Constitution protects the right of a man to retreat to his home without unreasonable government intrusion.
