A counter-suit is one that files a claim against the original filer of a lawsuit.

Virginia Giuffre accused Jeffrey Epstein of sexual assault in 2008. In addition, she accused Epstein's lawyer Alan Dershowitz of sexual assault. In response, Dershowitz, who was a Harvard Law School professor, states that he only represented Epstein as an attorney. Dershowitz counter-sued Giuffre for defamation and perjury, claiming that he never had any physical interaction with Giuffre.
