Curriculum[edit | edit source]
The University of Toledo College of Law offers full-time and part-time programs.[3] In the full-time program, students take 16 credits in the fall and spring semesters completing the required first-year courses in spring semester. In the part-time program of evening classes, students take 9-10 credits a semester.
Areas of concentration[edit | edit source]
The College offers five Certificates of Concentration that a student can specialize in:
Clinical offerings[edit | edit source]
Public externships[edit | edit source]
Students can be placed in a supervised setting, or Public Externship, in which they learn practical and professional skills as they explore the role of a practicing lawyer, prosecutor, judge, mediator, or many other positions. The logic is that students will be better able to learn the law by participating rather than just sitting in a classroom.
The College offers many externships, a few examples are:
- U.S. District Court
- U.S. Bankruptcy Court
- Court of Appeals
- Common Pleas Court
- U.S. Attorney General's Office
- Ohio Attorney General's Office
- Legal Aid
Legal clinics[edit | edit source]
In addition, students may apply to be placed in various legal clinics. These clinics are individualized and small group instruction in legal institutions and the lawyering process, as well as practical, hands-on, real life experience in carefully selected legal environments. Through the clinical programs, law students hone their legal skills while providing high-quality legal services to individuals and groups in our community.
The College offers the following clinics:
- Legal Clinic
- Domestic Violence Clinic
- Dispute Resolution Clinic
- Criminal Law Practice Program
Honor societies[edit | edit source]
The College of Law has a chapter of the Order of the Coif, a national legal honor society, which offers membership to the top ten percent of the graduating class. About half of the nation's law schools have been awarded chapters of the Order of the Coif
